The next major race on Gran Canaria is the Port Half Marathon (Media Maratón de la Junta del Puerto) on the 10th of May.

You have until the 8th of May to enter the race. Follow this link to find the entry form by clicking where is says "saber mas..." and then find where it says "ficha inscripcion y diptico informativo" (at the bottom of the link) and take it to the Burbujita shop in Las Palmas Calle General Vives 49.

Training Opportunities

If you are a runner or an oreinteer coming to Gran Canaria or the Canary Islands this blog is designed to help you.
Gran Canaria is one of the world's best winter sun locations and is the ideal place for a winter training camp for the serious athlete or the keen jogger.
It is not difficult to find somewhere to train with miles of beaches, several tracks and literally hundreds of kilometres of mountain/ forest trails.
Below I have listed of my favourite training locations along with links to google maps to help you locate them.

In the North

As I live in the North of the island (Las Palmas) I do must of my training here.
My favourite training run starts at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus and follows Las Canteras beach until you rejoin the paved paseo which you follow to El Confital. In El Confital you can do several differents loops depending on how far you want to run. Trail shoes are suits to this run.

Most of my track/ interval sessions take place in Parque Romano. This is a free to use 1000m track with a cinder/ sand surface beside the Metropol swimming pool (piscina).
